Tasting Notes

A deep ruby purple in color, this wine has notes of lilac, blueberries, and roasted carob on the nose. Its mouth filling, medium weight viscosity cascades over the palate to reveal a textured mélange of savory herbs, roasted game and crushed mineral. Old world finesse meets new world concentration in this classic example of what Syrah can become in the right hands. This wine can be enjoyed now but has the balance and structure to develop gracefully over the next decade.

Terroir

100% of Syrah this comes from the Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard. Located in very south Napa Valley between Coombsville and Carneros, the vineyard sits on a volcanic rocky bench, in a cooler climate widely influenced by the bay. The vineyard is positioned high on the hills guarding the entrance to Coombsville. In general this vineyard has long hang time and very low yields. Standing in this beautiful vineyard, one can see the most northern part of the San Francisco Bay. We like this terroir because it creates fresh acidity, a balanced wine with elegance and finesse. We have consistently made a 100% Cab and cuvée from this unique vineyard.
